“Given the Supreme Judicial Court’s ruling today, I am concerned about the future of the Commonwealth’s lobbying laws. I will be filing legislation to update the statute, and it’s my hope that the Legislature will recognize the need to ensure that public officials convicted of charges relating to corruption and others who commit serious crimes must be prohibited from being paid to work as lobbyists.”

Secretary of State William F. Galvin

The Supreme Judicial Court sided with former House speaker Sal DiMasi in a precedent-setting case that explains why the state, based on current law, cannot bar anyone convicted of a federal crime from registering as a lobbyist.
