Monthly collections up $119 million or 4.1% vs. October 2025 actual; $389 million above benchmark

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

11/04/2026

BOSTON, MA — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder today announced that preliminary revenue collections for October totaled $3.046 billion, $119 million or 4.1% more than actual collections in October 2025, and $389 million or 14.6% above benchmark.[1]

FY2027 year-to-date collections totaled approximately $14.731 billion, which is $1.721 billion or 13.2% more than actual collections in the same period of FY2026, and $521 million or 3.7% above the year-to-date benchmark.

“October 2026 revenue included increases relative to October 2025 collections in non-withholding income tax, sales tax, and corporate and business tax,” said Commissioner Snyder. “These increases were partially offset by a decrease in withholding. The increase in non-withholding income is mostly due to an increase in return payments, partially offset by an increase in income refunds. The increase in sales tax is due, in part, to an increase in collections from firms in the information and online retail industries. The increase in corporate and business tax is due to an increase in estimated and return payments, partially offset by an increase in corporate and business refunds. The decrease in withholding is due to typical fluctuations in monthly collections.”

In general, October is among the lower months for revenue collections, because neither individual nor business taxpayers make significant estimated payments during the month. Historically, roughly 6.5% of annual revenue, on average, has been received during October.
