MassDOT Announces Thirteenth Annual Safe Streets Smart Trips High School Video Contest Winners
Published October 27, 2026
BOSTON — The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) today announced the winners of this year’s statewide Safe Streets Smart Trips high school video contest. This year, submissions were received from high schools across Massachusetts, and six finalists’ videos were chosen to be screened during MassDOT’s 2026 Moving Together Conference.
The contest began in 2014 and encourages high school students to showcase their understanding of roadway safety across all travel modes to promote efforts to decrease pedestrian and bicyclist injuries and fatalities. Per the contest guidelines, students were asked to write and produce a 30-60 second video focused on safe riding behaviors for electric micromobility devices, including e-bikes, e-scooters and e-skateboards.
“MassDOT is proud to support the Safe Streets Smart Trips video contest for its thirteenth year, empowering the next generation to do their part in creating safer streets for everyone,” said Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager Phil Eng. “Electric micromobility devices are increasingly popular among younger generations, providing accessibility along with increased safety risks. Having young, passionate filmmakers share the importance of safety on these devices through their creativity is an excellent resource for informing both high school students and drivers of the need for heightened awareness with these devices.”
