After promising voters she would “show up for debates,” Healey refuses debate

HAMILTON, Mass. — Candidate for governor Mike Minogue calls on Maura Healey to keep her promise to Massachusetts voters and accept WWLP’s invitation to debate in Western Massachusetts. It comes after Healey rejected an invitation to debate on WFXT-TV, despite telling voters on September 2nd she and Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll would “show up.”

“I know where Kim and I are, and I know where we’re going to continue be the next 62 days, including showing up for debates,” said Healey. “I don’t know if he’s going to.”

Minogue has shown up, accepting all four invitations for televised debates on WFXT, WWLP, WBZ, and WCVB.

Now, Minogue says, it’s Healey’s turn.

“Maura Healey has spent three years driving up energy and housing costs, failing to conduct the audit, and making it harder to live and work in Massachusetts. Voters deserve to hear how she tries to defend her disastrous record. Hard-working families are struggling to get ahead on her watch. They deserve direct answers. They should be allowed every opportunity to contrast our two clearly different paths in this tipping-point election. But most of all, they deserve a governor who keeps their word,” said Minogue.

Minogue now calls on Healey to accept WWLP’s invitation and commit to a televised one-hour primetime debate in Western Massachusetts.
