Lexington High Schools Students Finish Fifth in National Envirothon Competition

Massachusetts students earn top five national finish in environmental science and natural resource competition

BOSTON — The Healey-Driscoll Administration congratulates the Lexington High School Envirothon Team on earning fifth place at the 2026 National Conservation Foundation (NCF) Envirothon in Starkville, Mississippi. The annual competition brings together top high school Envirothon teams to demonstrate their knowledge of environmental science and natural resource management.

“Massachusetts students are the best in the country, and the Lexington Envirothon Team is showing what that looks like,” said Governor Maura Healey. “These students took what they learned in the classroom and put it to work solving real environmental challenges. We’re incredibly proud of them for representing Massachusetts and finishing among the very best teams in the nation.” 

“This is an incredible accomplishment for these students, their teachers, coaches and families,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll. “Their hard work, teamwork and curiosity brought them all the way to a top-five national finish. Congratulations to the entire Lexington team for making Massachusetts proud.”

The Lexington team represented Massachusetts after winning the 2026 Massachusetts Envirothon championship in May. At the national competition, students competed in aquatic ecology, forestry, soils and land use, wildlife and this year’s current environmental issue through field-based exams and collaborative problem-solving.

“We are proud of the Lexington team for once again representing Massachusetts so well,” said Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Rebecca Tepper. “These students are putting environmental science into practice – working together to understand complex challenges and develop solutions. Their success reflects the strength of environmental education in Massachusetts and the promise of the of the next generation of environmental leaders.”

The Lexington team included Nalini Datta, Jocelyn Chen, Rahib Hyder, Helen Miao, Mari Kang, and Lei Yu. Their fifth-place finish continues Lexington High School’s strong record of success in the Envirothon program, following the school’s first-place finish at the 2025 NCF-Envirothon.

The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs also thanks the coaches, educators, families, and the many partners and volunteers who support the Massachusetts Envirothon and provide students across the state with opportunities to build skills in environmental science, conservation, teamwork, and leadership.

The 2027 Massachusetts Envirothon is scheduled for Thursday, May 27, 2027. Registration will open in September 2026. Learn more at Massachusetts Envirothon.
