Terms bill for transportation bond law sent to governor

A bill outlining the state borrowing terms to fund the transportation bond law has reached Gov. Maura Healey for her review after the Senate enacted it on July 31.

This bond terms bill is associated with the $1.4 billion Transportation Bond Bill that the governor signed in June, which includes $300 million in Chapter 90 funding.

In addition to Chapter 90 funding, the $1.4 billion transportation bond package authorizes the following infrastructure investments:

• $500 million for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s Bridge and Pavement Lifecycle Asset Management Programs

• $200 million for transportation improvements that support expanded housing development

• $200 million for a new Parkway Resilience Improvement and Safety Modernization (PRISM) investment program

• $200 million for the MBTA’s Rail Reliability Program

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for Chapter 90 eligible projects. However, reimbursements cannot be issued until the governor signs the associated bond terms bill.
