FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

8/05/2026

(BOSTON, MA) — Massachusetts Department of Revenue (DOR) Commissioner Geoffrey Snyder today announced that preliminary revenue collections for July totaled $3.093 billion, $398 million or 14.8% more than actual collections in July 2025.

“July 2026 revenue included increases relative to July 2025 collections in withholding, non-withholding income tax, corporate and business tax, sales tax and ‘all other’ tax,” said Commissioner Snyder. The increase in withholding was driven, in part, by an increase in collections from firms in the professional, scientific and technical services industry and firms in the finance and insurance industry. The increase in non-withholding income tax is driven mostly by increases in estimated and return payments, partially offset by an unfavorable increase in refunds. The increase in sales tax is due, in part, to typical fluctuations in monthly collections. The increase in corporate and business tax is due to increases in estimated and return payments coupled with a favorable decrease in refunds.”

The reported collections are not being measured against fiscal year 2027 benchmarks, which are expected to be established later this month.

July is one of the smaller tax collection months because no quarterly estimated payments are due for most individuals and businesses. Historically, roughly 6.7% of annual revenue, on average, has been received during July.

Given the brief period covered in the report, July results should not be used as a predictor for the rest of the fiscal year.

Note: June 2026 and full Fiscal Year 2026 revenue collections will be available once DOR completes the processing of June revenue.
