Press Release: 7/16/2026

Act Now to Protect Massachusetts from PFAS

It’s time for Massachusetts to join 26 other states and protect residents from toxic PFAS. To safeguard our health, preserve access to clean water, and reduce costs for cities and towns, we need to stop making, consuming, and disposing of items containing dangerous "forever chemicals."

PFAS are toxic chemicals found in products like cookware, food packaging, fabrics, and personal care products. They don't break down in the environment and have been linked to cancer, reproductive harm, and other serious health risks. Water supplies in Massachusetts cities and towns face significant PFAS contamination issues, and the problem continues to grow.

Massachusetts residents are paying a staggering price. Since 2017, more than $1.48B has been spent on testing for, treating, and cleaning up PFAS contamination. Yet PFAS manufacturers themselves have covered less than 1% of those costs.

Thankfully, the solution is clear. An Act to Protect Massachusetts Public Health from PFAS (H.4870/S.3034) would help stop contamination by phasing out unnecessary uses of PFAS in household products, creating a PFAS Remediation Trust Fund to help communities, and protecting water and farmland.
