BOSTON — The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) will host a special broadcast on Thursday, May 7, at noon highlighting the stories, trivia, and local lore behind select numbers featured in the 250th Anniversary Low Plate Lottery.
The public can watch the broadcast at noon via this link. The full list of winners will be posted at 1:00 p.m. on Mass.Gov/RMV/MA250Winners.
The broadcast features appearances from Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Interim Secretary of Transportation and MBTA General Manager Phil Eng, Registrar of Motor Vehicles Colleen Ogilvie, and other RMV leaders. The program highlights numbers grouped into five themed categories: sports, history, local attractions, arts, and fun facts.
The 250th Anniversary Low Plate Lottery drew significant statewide interest, with 48,457 residents entering. A total of 1,000 low number plates will be awarded including plates 1 through 999 and the commemorative “1776” plate.
The “Massachusetts 250 Years of Independence” plate is currently the most popular specialty plate in the state. The design features a red, white, and blue design with a blue color scheme (signifying our country’s flag), the year “1776” (the year our country was founded), 13 stars (representing the 13 original colonies, including Massachusetts), and the phrase “250 Years of Independence”. More than 71,000 of these plates are proudly being displayed on the road.
All applicants will receive an email notification at the address provided during their submission, including links to watch the plate lottery broadcast and view the complete list of winners. Winners will be notified by mail with instructions on how to transfer their current registration to their new “MA 250” plate.
The 250th Anniversary Low Plate Lottery is a pre-recorded broadcast presented by the RMV in partnership with the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. Winners and alternate winners have been selected using a random number generator.
Lottery winners who choose to accept their “MA 250” plate will pay a biennial $40 special plate fee in addition to the standard $60 registration fee, if applicable. Initial registration costs may vary depending on the applicant’s current plate expiration date. Full eligibility rules and lottery details are available on the RMV website.
The RMV reminds customers that if you don’t win a “MA 250” low number plate, you can still show your USA pride and order a “MA 250” plate online. The RMV also offers a vast array of special plates including charitable plates, military plates, and other original plates.
