Over 44,000 Massachusetts residents have entered the lottery
BOSTON – The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is reminding residents that there are only a few days left to enter the special low number license plate lottery for the Commonwealth’s 250th anniversary plates. The lottery will close at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 17.
More than 44,000 Massachusetts residents have already entered the lottery to date.
There is no cost for residents to enter the lottery. The 250th Special Low Plate Lottery is presented by the RMV in partnership with the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission. On May 7, residents can watch a broadcast online to learn more about Massachusetts’ 250 years of history, and individual winner results will be available online.
A total of 1,000 low number plates is available through the lottery, including numbers 1 through 999 and the “1776” commemorative number. In addition to posting the results online, applicants will receive notification by email from the RMV at the address used in their submission.
The “Massachusetts 250 Years of Independence” plate features a red, white and blue design, including a blue background, the year “1776” surrounded by 13 stars, and the phrase “250 Years of Independence.” The plate has become the most popular specialty plate in Massachusetts, with more than 71,000 currently on the road.
For those selected in the lottery, specialty plates carry a biennial $40 special plate fee, in addition to a standard registration fee of $60, if applicable. Initial registration costs may vary depending on the applicant’s current plate expiration date. Full eligibility requirements and lottery rules are available on the RMV website.
Residents are encouraged to visit the RMV’s website or follow @MassRMV on X (formerly Twitter) for additional details and updates regarding the lottery.
