METHUEN, MA – Mayor D.J. Beauregard today announced the temporary designation of Tristan Hoare to perform the duties of City/Chief Assessor, ensuring continuity of operations within one of the City’s most critical financial departments.
Pursuant to Section 3-4 of the Methuen Municipal Code, Mayor Beauregard has designated Mr. Hoare to serve in this capacity on an acting basis until the position is permanently filled. The designation follows a 6-3 City Council vote Monday night rejecting the Mayor’s nominee for City Assessor without discussion or explanation.
“The City cannot leave a department of this importance without leadership,” said Mayor Beauregard. “The Assessor’s Office plays a central role in property valuation, revenue stability, and the fair administration of our tax system. Ensuring continuity is essential to meeting our financial and statutory obligations.”
Mr. Hoare has been fully vetted and possesses the professional credentials required under Massachusetts standards. His designation will allow the Assessor’s Office to continue operating effectively, maintain compliance with applicable laws, and uphold the integrity of the City’s assessing functions.
This temporary designation does not alter the established process for permanently filling the City/Chief Assessor position, which will proceed in accordance with Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 41 Section 25A.
Mayor Beauregard emphasized that this action is being taken solely in the interest of maintaining uninterrupted service to Methuen residents and protecting the City’s financial operations.
