MeVa and Mayor Beauregard Announce Two New Bus Routes Expanding Public Transportation in Methuen
METHUEN – Merrimack Valley Transit (MeVa) and Mayor D.J. Beauregard today announced the launch of two new bus routes that will significantly expand public transportation access across the city and connect residents to jobs, healthcare, and shopping destinations throughout the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire. Beginning Monday, April 6, 2026, the new routes will introduce the first-ever crosstown bus service in Methuen and provide new regional connections to key employment and medical centers.
Introducing Route 25: Methuen Crosstown
The centerpiece of the expansion is Route 25 – Methuen Crosstown, the city’s first route designed to connect neighborhoods across Methuen without requiring riders to travel through Lawrence. Operating Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:20 pm, buses will run approximately every 80 minutes between The Loop and Merrimac Plaza along Haverhill Street, Mystic Street, and Lowell Street. The route will also serve major shopping areas and community destinations along the corridor, improving mobility for residents, seniors, and workers across the city.
New Cross-Border Route to Strengthen Economic Ties Between Methuen and Salem
In addition to the crosstown service, MeVa will introduce a new regional route connecting the Arlington neighborhood and downtown Methuen with southern New Hampshire. The route will link residents to Tuscan Village and Mass General Brigham healthcare facilities in Salem, New Hampshire.
This connection will give Methuen residents direct transit access to major employment, healthcare, and retail destinations, while strengthening economic ties between Methuen and Salem. The route will also expand opportunities for residents of neighboring communities to access Methuen’s businesses and historic and cultural assets, further supporting the city’s local economy.
Free Public Transportation in Methuen
As part of the city’s ongoing partnership with MeVa, bus service within Methuen will remain fare-free, helping remove transportation barriers for residents and making it easier to access city services, businesses, and community resources.
