Additional crews will be coming to the commonwealth from other states as conditions allow

BOSTON, Mass. (February 23, 2026) — Nearly 1,000 Eversource line, tree and service crews are a part of a massive restoration effort as a slow-moving, long-duration nor’easter continues to impact Massachusetts, bringing blizzard conditions, heavy, wet snow, strong winds and extremely hazardous travel, especially across eastern Massachusetts and the Cape. The majority of outages so far are concentrated on the Cape and other coastal areas, where the storm’s impacts have been most severe. As of 1:00 p.m. on Monday, approximately 231,800 Eversource customers are without power statewide.

Eversource began taking on storm-related damage around 3:30 a.m., with outages driven by a combination of factors – primarily strong winds and heavy, wet snow causing tree-related damage to electrical equipment – particularly in coastal communities. Gusts as high as 77 mph have already been reported on Cape Cod, with strong winds continuing across much of the state. Blowing and drifting snow, poor visibility and unsafe travel conditions are limiting where crews can safely access damage, especially on the Cape. Eversource will be bringing in additional crews from other states to support restoration in Massachusetts as conditions allow and storm restoration is complete in those states.

Despite the challenging conditions, Eversource has restored power to more than 107,000 customers so far, with some of that work completed through remote system operators using automated switching technology that allows power to be safely rerouted from control centers.

In addition to the army of line, tree and service crews assembled to work on restoration on the ground in impacted communities, thousands of additional personnel across operations, logistics and support roles are supporting the response. Crews are working wherever it is safe to do so while prioritizing public safety, including responding to 911 calls involving electrical equipment, supporting first responders and clearing blocked roads so repairs can be made safely. Because this is a slow-moving storm with prolonged hazardous conditions, restoration is expected to take place over multiple days, particularly in the hardest-hit areas.

“This is a slow-moving, long-duration storm, and the difficult travel conditions we’re seeing, especially on the Cape, are making restoration more challenging,” said Eversource President of Massachusetts Electric Operations Doug Foley. “Our crews are fully mobilized and have been working around the clock, but safety has to come first. In some locations, crews simply cannot access damage until conditions improve. In addition to the significant snow and wind, we’re coordinating with local officials to make sure we’re not in the way of their plow trucks as they work to improve roadways. To support our restoration efforts in eastern Massachusetts, we will be bringing in additional crews from New Hampshire and western Massachusetts as storm response is completed there and it’s safe to do so. We know customers want answers, and we appreciate their patience and understanding as we continue to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.”

Eversource reminds customers to always stay clear of downed wires, report them immediately to 9-1-1 and use caution during storm cleanup, watching for wires that may be hidden by snow or debris. Customers using generators should ensure they are operated outdoors and well away from buildings.

Customers can report outages online at Eversource.com, or by calling 800-592-2000 in Eastern Massachusetts and 877-659-6326 in Western Massachusetts.
