Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. Hosts State House Blood Drive Amid National Shortage
January 26, 2026
In response to the American Red Cross’s urgent appeal for blood donations, State Senator Bill Driscoll Jr. (D-Milton) is hosting a blood drive at the Massachusetts State House to help address the critical shortage affecting hospitals across the Commonwealth and the nation right now.
This Tuesday, January 27th is the most recent drive of the 5 that the Senator’s hosted with the American Red Cross since 2023.

The American Red Cross recently declared a severe blood shortage after the national supply dropped by approximately 35% over the past month, citing a “perfect storm” of factors including a record-breaking flu season and widespread winter weather disruptions that canceled more than 400 blood drives.
“Massachusetts has always stepped up in times of need,” said Senator Driscoll. “This blood shortage is a public health emergency, and I have been proud to host blood drives at the State House to help ensure our hospitals have the resources they need to save lives.”
The blood drive at the State House aims to bolster the dwindling supply of critical blood types, especially O positive, O negative, A negative, and B negative, which are in highest demand.
“Donating blood is one of the simplest, most powerful ways we can support our neighbors,” Driscoll added. “Whether you’re a first-time donor or a regular, your contribution could be the difference between life and death for someone in crisis.”

The Senator encourages all eligible residents to consider donating and to spread the word about the urgent need. Appointments can be made through RedCrossBlood.org.
