BOSTON — This week, the Executive Office of Technology Services and Security (TSS) announced a partnership with the nonprofit InnovateUS to deliver generative artificial intelligence training for its employees. The program will help augment the TSS workforce by informing employees about practical applications of generative AI to enhance daily state government work, gain skills to identify opportunities where AI can improve public service delivery, and make informed decisions about implementing these tools.
Additionally, the training program will inform the workforce on best practices for generative AI use to mitigate risk to data privacy, while examining broader societal challenges such as intellectual property, deepfakes and implications of private AI ownership.
“This partnership helps solidify our commitment to training our workforce at TSS on this transformative emerging technology, and advancing our ability to serve the state’s agencies and constituents,” said Technology Services and Security Secretary Jason Snyder. “We are so thankful to have both the tools and the training necessary to ensure that our team can realize the benefits of generative AI in our daily service to the people of Massachusetts.”
“By equipping its workforce with practical and ethical AI and digital skills, Massachusetts is positioning itself to deliver better, more efficient and responsive services for its residents,” said Beth Simone Noveck, Founder of InnovateUS and Director of the Burnes Center for Social Change at Northeastern University. “We look forward to continuing to work closely with our Massachusetts partners to ensure government remains innovative, trustworthy, and prepared to harness AI responsibly in service of the public.”
The training will be available to all TSS staff immediately, free of charge in collaboration with InnovateUS, and consists of five modules highlighting generative AI considerations including best practices, government-centered use cases, and risk mitigation.
