WCVB, Home Base partner to raise awareness, funding to help heal invisible wounds of war

NEEDHAM, Mass. —

WCVB, Boston’s trusted news and community leader, is proud to partner for the seventh consecutive year with Home Base, a Red Sox Foundation and Massachusetts General Hospital program, for the annual Helping Veterans Heal day-long telethon on Thursday, November 13.

The telethon will begin at 4:30AM during the EyeOpener newscast and end at 8:00PM after WCVB’s N.E. Patriots preshow SportsCenter 5: Countdown to Kickoff, with live updates, reports and special segments throughout the day’s regularly scheduled newscasts and programming. Hear from military families whose lives have been transformed by the care and support provided by Home Base and learn more about the invisible wounds of war affecting our nation’s veterans, service members, and their families. Together, WCVB and Home Base invite viewers to tune in, learn more, and take part in helping veterans heal—one story, one family, and one act of support at a time.

NewsCenter 5’s comprehensive coverage will feature live interviews with Brigadier General (ret.) Jack Hammond, Executive Director for the Home Base Program; Lindsay Hanson, Chief Marketing Officer of John Hancock and Global Head of Behavioral Insurance of Manulife; O’Neil Britton, MD, Chief Integration Officer and Executive Vice President of Mass General Brigham; and others.

HOW TO GIVE

Throughout the day on WCVB, starting in the EyeOpener at 4:30AM and ending at 8:00PM after WCVB’s N.E. Patriots preshow SportsCenter 5: Countdown to Kickoff, viewers will be encouraged to donate by visiting wcvb.com/homebase (online donations can be made at any time) or by calling 781-433-4009 (phones are open 6AM to 8PM). Every donation, no matter how big or how small, will help Home Base assist veterans, service members, and military families.

The annual “Helping Veterans Heal” telethon raises awareness and critical funds to support Home Base’s clinical programs dedicated to treating the invisible wounds of war. Headquartered in the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, Home Base is the only private sector clinic in New England, and the largest private sector clinic in America, with the sole focus of helping at-risk veterans and military families regain the lives they once had – all at no out-of-pocket cost to them.
