Massachusetts Citizens Speak Out: Overwhelming Support for Bill to Hold Insurers Accountable for Transition Harm
This Tuesday, the Joint Committee on Financial Services held a hearing on H.1172, An Act relative to insurance coverage for new treatment, and the results were clear. The hearing was an overwhelming success, with the vast majority of speakers testifying in strong support of the bill.
Speaker after speaker exposed the devastating consequences of so-called “gender-affirming care.” Several detransitioners shared heartbreaking stories of how they and their peers have been misled by doctors and activists, pushed into drastic medical interventions, and left to deal with irreversible harm — often with no help or accountability from the medical or insurance industries that profited from their suffering. Their courage in speaking out was nothing short of inspiring.
Testimony in favor of the bill came from a broad range of concerned citizens and national voices — including medical professionals and legal experts. Notably, a retired Massachusetts Supreme Court Judge and a prominent gender clinic whistleblower spoke powerfully in support of the bill.
The hearing also demonstrated bipartisan concern for this issue, with individuals from across the political spectrum, and representatives from groups ranging from radical feminists to MFI, voicing support. This unified voice clearly emphasized that protecting those harmed by these procedures is not a partisan cause — it’s a matter of truth, justice, and compassion.
Those supporting the bill outnumbered the opposition 20:1, with the overwhelming majority urging lawmakers to act decisively to protect victims and hold the medical and insurance industries accountable for the harm they have caused.
This hearing sent a strong and unmistakable message: Massachusetts families are demanding an end to the silence and denial surrounding transition harm. It’s time for our Commonwealth to stand up for those who have been hurt and ensure they receive the care and justice they deserve.
