Belmont MA, grade 3, 2023.

An Act relative to healthy youthH.656/S.340, will have a hearing before the Joint Committee On Education on September 16th.

If passed, these bills will remove control of health education from locally elected school committees by requiring that curricula align with the standards of the state's Comprehensive Health and Physical Education Framework (CHPE). These standards include lessons on gender identity, as a fact not to be questioned, beginning in third grade.

Please note that both the house and senate versions of the Healthy Youth Act are at the beginning of their legislative journey for this legislative session. If the Joint Committee On Education votes to advance the bill it will then continue to a hearing and vote on the floor of each chamber and you will again have an opportunity to submit testimony and tell your state senator and representative how you would like them to vote. However, if your state senator or representative serves on the committee (check here), NOW is a great time to tell them how you want them to vote.

To testify in person you must register by 1pm Friday September 12th.

Written testimony must be submitted by Tuesday September 23rd. Testimony can be short and simple: your name, the bill numbers, your statement of opposition and, if you want, the reason for your position. Address your testimony to the Joint Committee On Education. Sign your email with your name, organization, and phone number.

Submit written testimony to Fiona Bruce-Baiden at  jointcommittee.education@malegislature.gov and Dennis Burke at  Dennis.Burke@masenate.gov. In the subject line include “EDUCATION COMMITTEE TESTIMONY” and the bill numbers, H.656 and S.340.
