BOSTON TEACHERS UNION STATEMENT ON ATTORNEY GENERAL PAM BONDI’S THREATS AGAINST BOSTON
Educators Union backs Mayor Michelle Wu in vow to stand against unconstitutional coercion from federal government
BOSTON – The Boston Teachers Union condemns the reckless and dangerous threats made by Attorney General Pam Bondi to arrest city officials and strip funding from Boston if our city refuses to participate in mass deportations. These threats are nothing short of an attack on our democracy, our values, and the safety of the children and families we serve every day.
Educators know all too well the harm that unlawful immigration enforcement already inflicts on our students. No child should ever have to live in fear that their family will be torn apart on their way to school. Schools must be safe havens where children can focus on learning, not places where fear and instability are forced upon them by political agendas.
We reject any attempt to coerce Boston into participating in mass deportations, which would only deepen the trauma for our immigrant students and families.
We appreciate Mayor Michelle Wu’s clear and powerful statement that Boston will not be bullied into turning against our immigrant communities. Her leadership reflects the values of this city and the commitment to protect families, children, and educators from these cruel and unlawful attacks. The Boston Teachers Union stands fully behind her and urges all elected officials in Massachusetts to join her in denouncing these threats and defending our communities.
The Boston Teachers Union stands proudly with all families in our community. We will continue to fight for policies that protect our students and uphold the dignity and humanity of every member of our school community.
