If passed, the Social Work Compact would:
- Would reduce barriers to license portability by allowing social workers with bachelor’s, master’s, and clinical licenses to serve clients in other compact states.
- Will provide continuity of care for clients who frequently relocate or travel, enhance public safety, allow states increased investigative ability with licensees to ensure ethical practice is upheld, and further expand the availability of unique services provided by social workers.
- The compact has been adopted in several states, each reflecting the same language as written in the model legislation. In the Northeastern United States, states such as Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, and Rhode Island have all enacted the Social Work Licensure Compact.
