Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz Elected President of National District Attorneys Association

BOSTON, MA — The Massachusetts Republican Party congratulated Republican District Attorney Timothy Cruz on his election to serve as President of the National District Attorneys Association, the oldest and largest prosecutors’ association in the United States. Cruz was elected following a vote by the organization’s Board of Directors and will serve out his term through 2026.

 

DA Cruz brings more than two decades of leadership to the top of the NDAA where he will serve as a national voice for prosecutors advocating for victims and strategies to curb violent crime, child exploitation, organized retail theft, and opioid addiction, among many priorities carried out by his office.

 

“DA Cruz is a proven leader with a track record of results,” said Nelson Bunn, NDAA Executive Director. “His commitment to proactive prevention, enforcement, and cross-sector collaboration makes him uniquely suited to lead NDAA at this critical moment in our nation’s justice system.”

 

First elected in 2001, Cruz also gives his time to community organizations, including serving as President of the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association and as a member of the Governor’s Council on Capital Punishment and the Forensic Sciences Advisory Board. His office promotes initiatives aimed at reducing recidivism while cultivating juvenile reform and diversion programs.

 

Cruz earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College and his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School. He is admitted to practice before the Massachusetts bar, U.S. District Court, U.S. Court of Appeals, and the Supreme Court of the United States.

 

“Prosecutors are more than courtroom advocates; we are frontline problem solvers who stand for justice, healing, and hope,” said Cruz. “As NDAA President, I will ensure that the voices of prosecutors from all jurisdictions are heard loud and clear. Together, we will continue to prioritize victims, reduce violence, and bring innovative, community-based strategies to the forefront of prosecution.”

 

As one of his first actions as President of the NDAA, Cruz authored an op-ed calling on Massachusetts lawmakers to reform the state’s parole board and lenient sentencing mandates that have resulted in the release of multiple first-degree murderers. (City Journal, 7/14/25)
