Honored for Our Commitment to Transitioning Military Veterans

As a union, we’re proud to have so many military veterans as members. They have certainly earned the right to work in jobs that pay great wages and provide health and retirement benefits.

Congratulations to Local 290 on Long Island for receiving the Keeping America’s Promise Award from the Helmets to Hardhats organization. This award honors our dedication to supporting transitioning military veterans by offering top careers, wages, and benefits.

The UBC has been a steadfast partner of the Helmets to Hardhats program, which not only places vets on a fast track to union apprenticeship, but most importantly into a career. Helmets to Hardhats is a free, nonprofit program that connects transitioning service members and veterans with high-quality career opportunities in the construction industry.

“Local 290, alongside the North Atlantic States Carpenters Training Fund, continues to work collaboratively to network, identify, and provide opportunities for our veterans, ensuring their smooth and successful transition into the workforce,” said Anthony Villa, Local 290 Business Manager.

“Please know, the impact of your support will not only make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country but it will also have a lasting effect on their families and loved ones,” said Martin F. Helms, Helmets to Hardhats Executive Director.
