MassGOP Sounds Alarm Over Sanctuary Policy Failures: ICE Arrests Highlight Risks

April 1, 2024

Boston–On Friday, ICE agents apprehended five immigrant criminals who are accused of heinous sex crimes against children. One of these individuals is an illegal immigrant and faces nine counts of sexual abuse of a child in Massachusetts. Despite a federal immigration detainer issued on this individual in November, the Massachusetts Court System did not comply. The illegal immigrant has been arrested and released multiple times without being transferred to federal authorities before ICE stepped in and made the arrest themselves.

Amy Carnevale, Chair of the MassGOP, provided comment on the recent arrests last Friday stating, “The tragic outcome whereby criminal illegal immigrants are let loose to reoffend stems from the Healey-Driscoll Administration ‘Things will happen’ approach to migrant and illegal immigrant crimes in the Commonwealth.  Massachusetts has become a magnet for illegal immigrants facing criminal charges because of our sanctuary city policies that allow these criminals  to evade arrest while victims continue to be put at risk.”

“The Healey-Driscoll Administration loves to blame the Federal Government for the Commonwealth’s immigration issues, yet the Administration refuses to collaborate with federal authorities to detain immigrants accused of heinous crimes and transfer these criminals over. Municipalities with sanctuary policies are jeopardizing their communities, and residents in these areas should seriously consider recent events to understand the actual repercussions of these policies,” Carnevale concluded.
