State Parks System to Utilize Mobile Parking App Yodel to Streamline Visitor Parking Process:

DCR will commence utilizing the mobile parking app YODEL throughout the state parks system enabling visitors to pay for parking using their smartphone

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/13/2022

BOSTON — The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) today announced that the agency will commence utilizing the mobile parking app YODEL throughout the state parks system enabling visitors to pay for parking using their smartphone. With the use of the mobile parking app, combined with the use of existing “Pay and Display” machines at parks and beaches, visitor parking will be streamlined at locations where parking fees have historically been required prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, starting on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

“During the COVID-19 pandemic, state park properties served as essential resources for us all to get outside, relax, and spend time with family and friends in safe, healthy environments,” said Acting Department of Conservation and Recreation Commissioner Stephanie Cooper. “Importantly, the agency took this time to assess and implement contactless payment transactions, which will further enhance the park experience for all who visit this summer.”

DCR’s Annual Parking Pass is also available to Massachusetts residents, and is now being sold via a YODEL website dedicated to DCR parking passes, as well as through the app. Senior Parking Passes are also available to Massachusetts residents aged 62 years old and older. For more information regarding the Senior Parking Pass, as well as a full list of agency properties where parking fees apply, please visit DCR’s Parking at Massachusetts State Parks webpage.

“DCR is excited to be able to offer YODEL at its properties to assist the public as they visit state beaches and parks this summer season,” said Mike Nelson, Director of Ranger Services for DCR. “This app takes a minute or two the first time you use it, but then retains your information making the parking process quick and easy, allowing more time to enjoy the agency’s natural resources.”

While the YODEL app streamlines the payment process when paying for parking at DCR properties, it is not a parking reservation system and visitors should wait until they arrive at a property before purchasing a parking pass. YODEL is also not for use at the Quabbin boat ramps or any DCR hourly-rate parking areas, such as on-street parking along agency parkways.
