MassDOT Advisory: Bedford

Temporary Daytime Closures on the Middlesex Turnpike

Closures will occur from 4 a.m. until 3 p.m., on Thursday, June 17 and Friday, June 18

BEDFORD – The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing an upcoming closure for paving operations along the Middlesex Turnpike in Bedford. This work will occur daily between the hours of 4:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 17 and Friday, June 18.

These traffic impacts are necessary to install pavement transitions to facilitate an upcoming traffic shift to allow for the next phase of construction.  These pavement transitions will be constructed on Middlesex Turnpike between Crosby Drive and Oak Park Drive.

This project includes transportation improvements to Middlesex Turnpike in Bedford and Billerica.  The proposed roadway improvements include widening of the Turnpike from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane roadway with the addition of a raised median, protected left turn lanes, traffic signals and sidewalks. Replacement of the bridge culvert at the Shawsheen River is also included in this project.  The contract was awarded to Barletta Heavy Division with an estimated total cost of $34.5 million and completion date of June 2023.

Drivers who are traveling through the area should reduce speed and use caution.

Appropriate signage, law enforcement details, and advanced message boards will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.
