“For those who rely on the MBTA the system is in crisis” DeLeo said. "Fixing the MBTA requires a long-term strategic plan as well as the long-term dedicated annual revenue to implement it. Nothing short of a modern, reliable, and safe transit system is what MBTA commuters deserve, and it is what the House demands.”

House Speaker Robert DeLeo

Issuing a statement after Governor Baker announced a plan to use $50 million in surplus funds to help the MBTA.

Recipe of the Week

Makes 4 Servings

Ingredients

2    tablespoons olive oil
½    red onion, thinly sliced
1    jalapeno pepper, cut into thin rings
3    cloves garlic, chopped
4    plum tomatoes, chopped
Salt and pepper, to taste
1    can (12 ounces) light lager beer
4    pounds mussels, rinsed and debearded
Grated rind and juice of 2 limes
1    cup chopped fresh cilantro

Directions

1. In a soup pot over medium-high heat, heat the oil. When it is hot, add the onion, jalapeno, and garlic. Cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes, or until the onion softens.

2. Add half the tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Cook, stirring often, for 7 to 10 minutes or until the tomatoes start to break down.

3. Add the beer and bring to a boil. Add the mussels and cover the pot. Cook for 7 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally with a large metal spoon, keeping the pot covered, until all the mussels are open. Discard any that do not open.

4. Stir the remaining tomatoes, lime rind and juice, and cilantro into the pot. Taste the broth for seasoning, and add more salt and pepper, if you like. Ladle the mussels and the broth into 4 shallow bowls.
